Belk Library and Information Commons Conduct Policy
To ensure that the library is inviting as a place for research and study for all users, the Library requires that each user refrain from the following activities:
- Removing library materials or property without checking them out or without authorization.
- Misusing or tampering with computing or media equipment or Internet connections or Internet resources. See: Policy on the Use of Computers and Data Communications and the Library’s Internet Access Policy
- Using a cell phone in area designated as a quiet study area. See: Cell Phone Use Policy
- Bringing food and uncovered drinks into the building. See: Food and Drink Policy
- Smoking or using tobacco in any form. See: Food and Drink Policy
- Mutilating library materials by marking, underlining, removing pages or portions of pages or removing electronic theft detection devices.
- Defacing equipment, furniture, or the building or any behaviors likely to result in destruction, damage, misuse or abuse of Library property.
- Disruptive behavior.
- Behavior that can be interpreted as creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.
- Being in an unauthorized area of the Library, or remaining in the Library after closing or during emergency situations or drills.
Misuse of the library, whether by theft, mutilation, or vandalism of library materials or property, or by interference with study and research activities of library users is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Persons who commit or attempt to commit offenses referred to in the Student Code of Conduct , in the Library Conduct Policy, or in other Library, State and University policies applicable to the Library, whether members of the University Community or not, may be asked to leave the Library, and may be subject to university, civil, and criminal sanctions. These sanctions might include being banned from the library or from the entire campus.
