| Abstract: | The Appalachian Regional Postcard Collection contains over 560 postcards from Appalachian towns or with Appalachian themes. Some postcards originate from Appalachian Trail states. States included are Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Specific areas emphasized include Asheville, North Carolina, the Blue Ridge Parkway of North Carolina and Virginia, Great Smoky National Park, and Charleston, West Virginia. One modern humorous postcard series portrays stereotypical Appalachian images. |

This collection is arranged alphabetically by state and subdivided by city. Postcards for the Blue Ridge Parkway are arranged in either North Carolina or Virginia depending on the state of origin. The Cherokee Nation and Great Smoky Mountains are each arranged as a city. Duplicate postcards are retained. The collection is continually updated via purchase and donation by library employees.
Postcard size is primarily 4 x 6".
