Abstract: The Appalachian Crafts and Music Festival Tapes is a collection of the papers and thirty-five audio- and six videocassettes, recorded at the Appalachian Crafts and Music Festivals in 1984, 6 December 1985 and 4 December 1987.
The Appalachian Crafts and Music Festival was an annual event in Watauga County, North Carolina featuring local and regional craftsmen and musicians. This collection contains audio and video cassettes for three years.

Biographical Note

The Appalachian Crafts and Music Festival was an annual event in Watauga County, North Carolina featuring local and regional craftsmen and musicians. The festivals were held at Appalachian State University's University Hall in 1984 and H'Appy's, currently named Legends, in 1985. Appalachian Studies graduate student Mary Greene organized these festivals. Featured musicians include Jim Thompson, Frank Proffitt, Jr., Glen Bolick, Chickenlips, old time string band Walnut Hill, bluegrass band Timberline, Stanley Hicks. Featured crafts include leatherwork, chair, woodcarvings, quilts, and cornshuck dolls.

Audio Materials Series contains thirty-five audio cassettes of 1984, 1985 and 1987 Appalachian Crafts and Music Festival musicians, numerical order.

Collection 152B. Audio-Visual Materials Series. (1985-1986)
Audio-Visual Materials Series contains six VHS video cassettes of the 1984 and 1985 Appalachian Crafts and Music Festival, chronological order. One cassette is of the 1984 festival and the remainder are of the 1985 festival. The 1984 cassette contains both craft vendors and excerpts of musicians. The 1985 cassettes show only the musicians. The 1985 tapes 2, 4 and 5 have poor tracking and the 1985 tapes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 lack sound. Craftsmen and musicians are inconsistently identified.
