Biographical Note

Lulu Belle and Skyland Scotty were the stage names of the 1930s-1950s era husband-and-wife country music duet nicknamed the 'Sweethearts of Country Music'. Lulu Belle was born Myrtle Eleanor Cooper on December 24, 1913 in Boone, North Carolina. Scotty was born Scott Wiseman on November 8, 1909 near Asheville, North Carolina. He attended Duke University and Fairmont State College. They were teamed by the staff of Chicago's WLS National Barn Dance and were later married in 1934. Lulu Belle was voted Radio Queen of 1936 and they had their own daily TV show. They remained popular until their retirement in 1958. Some of their popular songs include 'Whippoorwill Time', 'Remember Me', 'Have I Told You Lately That I Love You?', 'Empty Christmas Stocking', and 'Mountain Dew'. Scotty worked as a teacher upon musical retirement and died in 1981 in Gainesville, Florida.
