Edmond Spencer Blackburn (1868-1912) was born in Watauga County, North Carolina, and lived in Western and Piedmont North Carolina for most of his life. Blackburn was a lawyer, legislator, Congressman and a Republican Party leader. He married Louise Parker of Washington, D.C. and they had two children, Cynthia and Martha. Blackburn died of complications from a cold.
The Edmond Spencer Blackburn Collection of Papers contains photographs, biographies, correspondence, genealogical charts and Blackburn's obituary. Some items pertain to the Jones family, who are related to the Blackburn family by marriage. Selected letters, although handwritten, were copied by Mattie Blackburn Jones.
This collection is organized into two series: 176A. Documents and 176B. Photographs. Photographs are stored separately.
