Abstract: The W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection Genealogy Files is a collection of various unrelated family genealogies donated to the library. Many families originate from, but are not limited to, northwestern North Carolina.
The W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection Genealogy Files are housed alphabetically by family surname. Some file names reflect a location rather than a family. The collection files vary in accuracy and thoroughness. Many contain reproductions of primary source materials.

Acquisitions Information

The W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection Genealogy Files have been individually donated to the W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection over its existence. Fred Hay's Appalachian Studies 5000 students and Val Hay's World History students created many of the included family genealogies. They were originally housed in file cabinets. The Jackie L. Baird Plott file was added to the collection in April, 2006.

Scope and Content Note

The W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection Genealogy Files include hundreds of genealogies from the Appalachian Region. Many originated from the Appalachian State University students of Fred Hay and Valentina Maiewskij-Hay. Fred Hay's students have Others have been donated by W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection patrons and natives of Ashe and Watauga Counties, North Carolina. The accuracy and thoroughness of these genealogies are unknown.

Fred Hay's Appalachian Studies 5000 graduate students have constructed genealogies for Watauga County black families, High Country musicans, and Watauga County politicans.
