Abstract: The Rhea School Collection of Papers consists of a March 6, 1912 Closing Exercizes Program from the Rhea School of Sullivan County, Tennessee. Also included are two pages from Thelma Barnes' Adventures in Education: Sullivan County, 1773-1983. These pages include a photograph and a description of the Rhea School.
This collection contains a material culture example of an early twentieth century one-room school located in Appalachian Tennessee. The program lists the names of the teacher, students and the titles of their recitations.

Historical Note

The Rhea School was built in 1833 as a log building in the 23rd Common School District in Sullivan County, Tennessee. In 1911, a frame building replaced the log building. It closed in 1932.
