Charles Town, West Virginia is located in Jefferson County, West Virginia in the northeastern panhandle. Charles Washington founded the town in 1786. In 1801, Jefferson County was formed from Berkeley County. Jefferson County contains 212 square miles, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Shenandoah River. Abolitionist John Brown was hanged in Charles Town in 1859.
These photographs likely originate from Jefferson County, West Virginia; however, some appear to have been misplaced within the photograph album resulting in an inability to determine the accuracy of the photograph album's names within the collection as a whole.
