Biographical Note

Mike Craver is one of the original member of the Red Clay Ramblers from 1974 to 1986. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School and attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His solo performances includes Shining Down (2002), Wagoner's Lad (l999), and Fishing for Amour (1984; reissue 2005).

In the mid-1980s, Craver became involved in theatre in New York, as a writer, performer, and music director. He directed the music in Good Ol' Girls (2008) and a recording of his latest project with Clyde Edgerton, Lunch at the Piccadilly (2006).

Craver's collaborater Mark Hardwick (1954-1993) worked with Craver on Pump Boys and Dinettes,Oil City Symphony, andRadio Gals. He lived in Reeds, North Carolina.

Red Clay Ramblers was a string band founded in 1972 in Durham, North Carolina. Original band members were Tommy Thompson, Jim Watson, and Bill Hicks. Craver joined two years later, and Jack Herrick joined as a trumpet and bassist in 1976. They toured in the United States, Canada, Africa, and Europe.

Matthew Weaver is a musician from Salisbury, North Carolina. He was born in 1972 in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and in 1984 moved to Salisbury, North Carolina. He has performed in Bluegrass Shows, Appalachian Mountain Music shows, and 15 off-Broadway musical shows. He serves as director of music at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salisbury, North Carolina, and holds First Degree status in the Knights of Columbus. He studied history and Appalachian music at Appalachian State University in 2008.

Craver describes Red Clay Ramblers' tours, his musical influences, his post-Red Clay Ramblers' theatre career, and his musical inspirations and creation process. He discusses performing with Johnny Cash, with whom the Red Clay Ramblers played, being on the Prairie Home Companion, and the origins of some of his songs.
