Congressional Legislative Materials
Legislative materials constitute the bulk of the James Thomas Broyhill Papers and include bills sponsored, correspondence, constituent services, topic files, appointments, and voting/attendance records.
Newspaper Clippings
Broyhill's staff collected approximately 20,000 newspaper clippings from over forty-two local and national newspapers. The newspaper articles cover a wide range of topics including local and national political concerns, campaign publicity, political opponents, and the Broyhill family. The newspaper clippings have been microfilmed onto thirty-four rolls of film, and a computerized index of the clippings microfilm created. The index contains the following information, when available: newspaper article title, author, title of the newspaper carrying the article, the date of the article, newspaper page number, and microfilm reel and frame number. Over 1200 photos are included in the James T. Broyhill Papers and are stored separately from the print files. The photo collection includes campaign photos of Broyhill, his family, and other political figures as well as photos of Broyhill and visiting constituents on the steps of the Federal Capitol Building, from constituents, of academy applicants [restricted] and photos pertaining to legislative issues collected by the Broyhill staff. The photographs have been indexed in a computer database which may be searched by keyword.

Public Relations and Memorabilia
Included are speeches, copies of Broyhill's weekly newspaper column, The Washington Report , and campaign memorabilia such as bumper stickers, pins, matchbook covers, and posters. Also included are copies of the annual Broyhill Cookbook distributed to constituents.

Includes recordings of speeches, radio interviews, and campaign commercials.
