Map of ChinaThe Doorways International Program Series will present: “Catching the Global Wave: Evolution of Chinese Spoken Language"

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 4:00 pm in Room 114, Belk Library and Information Commons.

Romance language speakers often found the Chinese language difficult to learn due to its unique writing and pronunciation system. But, if you know the formation and the Romanization process of the language, it becomes much easier to study.

The speaker, Dr. Li Jin will talk about the origins of the Chinese language, the changes in Chinese spoken language brought about by China’s economic development, and the influence from the outside world on language over the past 50 years. She will also discuss how these factors affect CFL learners. Two Chinese learning students will join Dr. Jin for this discussion, and they will share their experience studying the language and living in the Chinese culture.

Dr. Jin is a Chinese language instructor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Dr. Jin's special interests include computer-mediated communication, Chinese as a Foreign Language, ESL learning and teaching, and foreign language teacher education.

The Doorways series is sponsored by Belk Library and Information Commons. Its goal is to provide a platform for people to share their research and knowledge on international issues and build relationships on campus based on interest in international affairs.
