Special Collections Reading Rooms

Cratis Williams Reading Room (Open Stacks)

Room 432, 4th Floor, Belk Library and Information Commons

The Cratis Williams Reading Room contains publications, newspapers, clippings files, genealogical resources, videos, CDs, and maps for the Appalachian Collection and Stock Car Racing Collection. Many items may be checked out. Materials marked "For Library Use Only" do not circulate. For loan periods, please see Borrowing Materials and Loan Periods.

Dougherty Reading Room (Closed Collection)

Room 442, 4th Floor, Belk Library and Information Commons

The Dougherty Reading Room is where researchers may use materials from the Closed Collection, which includes manuscripts (unpublished documents), university records, rare or unique books, printed materials, maps, oral histories, newspapers, scrapbooks, and photographs from the units of Special Collections: W.L. Eury Appalachian Collection, Rare Book Collections, Stock Car Racing Collection, and University Archives and Records.

Closed Collection material is non-circulating and may be used only in the Dougherty Reading Room. To schedule an appointment, please contact Greta Browning at 828 262-7974 or browningge@appstate.edu.
