Request a Book
Option 1: ASU, UNC-A and Western Carolina books - mailed to your home address! - via ABC Express
Option 2: Books not available from ASU, UNC-A or Western Carolina - via Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
Option 1: Use ABC Request to have a book(s) mailed to your home address.
Follow these instructions:
Search the WNCLN Library catalog.

View the screen containing the book's location (ASU, UNC-A or Western), the call number, and circulation status.

Click the "Request ABC" link.

Enter your name and Banner ID number.

In the "Choose a Pickup Location" box, select " ASU Distance Learning." Click "Submit above information."

Click in the radio button beside the wanted copy. Click "Request selected item."
All WNCLN books will be mailed to your home address as listed on your student record.
Note: Do not request journal volumes from Western or Asheville via ABC Express. All articles are requested through ILLiad .

Books available from the ASU collection will be mailed to your home - normally within one week.

Books available from Western Carolina University or UNC-Asheville will be sent to ASU and then mailed to your home - in approximately one week. Note: You may call 828-262-2781 to check on your request if they haven't arrived within 10 days.

We pay postage both ways. Return postage to ASU (with mailer and instructions) will be enclosed. (Or, if you check your book out at ASU and you'd like a return label, contact the Document Delivery staff at 1-828-262-2781.)

Loan period for books is 3 weeks. Provided there are no holds on an item - two renewals are allowed. Renewals may be requested by phone (828) 262-2818 or via View your own record.

Please Note: Return mail time to ASU will take at least 5 - 7 days .

Option 2: Use Interlibrary Loan to obtain books not available from ASU, UNC-A or Western Carolina
A book you want isn't available from ASU, UNC-A or Western (WNCLN)? It probably can be borrowed from another library via Interlibrary Loan. Note: You must pick up these books at Belk Library. Mailing is not allowed. Remember to bring your ASU ID.
Use Interlibrary Loan's ILLiad system to request these books.

Are you a first time ILLiad user? Register.

Already registered? Go to the ILLiad Logon screen.

After logging in, you will see ILLiad's Main Menu.
- The second option under Request Types is Request a Book. Click on it.
- Complete the form. Click the Submit Request button when you are finished.
Note: Use the ILLiad Request a Book option for ERIC documents too, e.g. ED 123 456.
ILLiad FAQ's:

You need to travel to Belk Library to pick up the book. We are prohibited from mailing interlibrary loan books to you. Remember you must bring your ASU ID.

Delivery time from the distant library to ASU's Belk Library varies from 1 to 3 weeks.

You will receive an e-mail notification when the book arrives. You will have 7 days to pick it up at Belk Library's Circulation/Reserve Desk.

Renewals for items from other libraries are lending library dependent. Contact Interlibrary Loan at (828) 262-2826.
