Firm Orders
Faculty requests
Requests for materials at Belk Library are received from the Collection Development Team. Academic faculty should route their requests to the CD Team through their Library Subject Specialists. The Acquisitions Unit orders materials as soon as the requests are received from the Collection Development Team or within as short a period of time as possible, depending on the amount of requests received, the completeness of the information received, or the absence of problems concerning the requests. Every effort is made to obtain the materials requested.
Vendors and publishers
The primary monographic vendor is Yankee. Orders for Appalachian Collection materials (for the most part) are sent directly to the publishers. Children's book requests not received on the approval plan are sent to Baker & Taylor. Non-print materials are sent to Ambassador. Some monographs and other materials are sent direct, in order to take advantage of discounts, special offers, or limited availability.
Rush orders and status checking
Academic faculty may request that materials be rush-ordered and rush-cataloged. Academic faculty may also request that materials waiting to be cataloged be rushed. Anyone in Acquisitions will check on orders that have not been received, materials waiting to be cataloged, or on orders which have been canceled, and will notify the concerned faculty as to the disposition of the order.
