Sixteenth-Century Guitar Tablatures

Beginning with Mudarra in 1546, the guitar appears in 13 extant printed books from the sixteenth century. By far the largest number of these books appears in Paris in the 1550s. All genre types are represented, but dances feature more prominently than the others. Many of the later books (from 1560 on) are no longer extant.
