Horn in the West Exhibit, 4th Floor

The newest exhibit in Special Collections features historical documents, photos, an original poster, and an artifact from Boone’s outdoor drama, “Horn in the West.” The exhibit, curated by Appalachian Studies graduate student Adam Sheffield, is located inside Special Collections and is on display through the summer during the department’s open hours.  All of the materials on display and much more is available in the

Films On Demand Streaming Videos

Films On Demand provides access to over 22,000 high quality streaming video on a wide-variety of topics. Subject covered include business & economics, health & medicine, humanities & social sciences, science & mathematics, as well as travel and fitness programming, home and how-to videos, and popular music performances. The videos include Oscar, Emmy and Peabody award winning documentaries plus interviews, instructional and vocational training videos, historical speeches and newsreels.

Health Database Trials Through Mid-April

The Library has on-campus trials for 2 databases for the health sciences, the Cochrane Library and Embase.  The trials will end April 14 and 15, respectively.  Please try them for your research.  Contact John Wiswell for help or with questions and comments, wiswellj@appstate.edu, x7853.

Game Night at Belk Library, April 16, 7–10 pm

The Nerd Network is teaming up with Belk Library to provide an evening of games, food, and community. A wide variety of board games will be provided by the Belk Library’s Instructional Materials Center (IMC), or feel free to bring your own. Appalachian State University students, staff, and faculty are welcome and the event is FREE.

Living with eBooks

The ebook experience can be pretty painful.  So here's a suggestion that works for our 2 largest ebook sources, ProQuest ebrary and EBSCOhost.  Use them by the chapter.  It's fairly easy to open a chapter and download it as a pdf, just as you would a journal article.

Comic-athon, Wednesday December 3rd, 8 am-5 pm

The library will host an 8 hour graphic novel drawing session on the main floor. Just inside the library, students from an art department graphic novel class and students from an art education methods course will be drawing comics 8AM until 5 PM.

Anyone is welcome to join in the drawing.

Drawing materials are not provided but Zines are free!

Read some great comics, browse the library's comic and graphic novel collection and take home a Zine! See you there!
