Our Perceptions of Muhammad & Islam: A Discussion led by Saiyid Hasnain in 114 Oct 29

Date:  Tuesday, October 29, 2013
Time: 5:00 pm
Location: Belk Library -- Room 114
Admission: Free, open to the public

Students, faculty, and community members are invited to attend a discussion of Muhammad & Islam led by Saiyid Hasnain using the book Muhammad, A Very Short Introduction by Jonathan Brown as a starting place for discussion.

Copies of the book are available in the Browsing section of the Appalachian State University Library.  Students, faculty, and community members are encouraged to check-out the book and participate in discussion.  But familiarity with the book is not necessary to appreciate this event.   The event will be Tuesday, Oct 29, at 5:00 PM in the Library auditorium Room 114. Mr. Saiyid Hasnain was originally from Pakistan but moved to the U.S. in the 1980s.  He is an engineer with an international firm and in the course of his work has traveled throughout the world. He and his family currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina where he is a speaker at his mosque.

The event is presented by ASU Library in conjunction with the Muslim Students Association as the second event of the Muslim Journeys Bridging Cultures “Let’s Talk About It” Program, a series of book and film discussions. The Program is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association.  This series follows upon the Muslim Journeys Bridging Cultures Bookshelf Program begun in Spring 2013 which provided materials related to Muslim cultures to the University Library.
