Downton Abbey Exhibit and Open House

A new Special Collections exhibit, "The Lives of Nobles: Downton Abbey in the Rhinehart Collection," examines a selection of common themes between the hit BBC and PBS series Downton Abbey and the Rhinehart British Studies Rare Book Collection in Special Collections. The exhibit explores the themes of entail, country homes, and country house libraries. The display is located on the Library's 4th floor at the top of the main staircase next to the Rhinehart Rare Books and Special Collections Room.

In Downton Abbey, the library is a common backdrop, yet few people know that we have a similar library right here in Belk Library. The Rhinehart Rare Books and Special Collections room was designed in the style of an English country library.

To more fully absorb the aura of such a library, Special Collections is hosting "A Downton Afternoon" open house in the Rhinehart Room, Wednesday, February 19, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to see the Rhinehart Room and its collection, and enjoy a Downton Abbey-themed afternoon. All are invited. Costumes are optional.
