Dr. Anna Field will speak about her research about crime and masculinity in early modern England (1500s-1700s) based on the research that she has conducted as the 2019-2020 Rhinehart Postdoctoral Fellow in British History.

Dr. Field joined Appalachian State University in September 2019 as the Rhinehart Postdoctoral Fellow in British History, where she has been using rare books in Special Collections to continue research and writing for a book project, Intimate Crime: Gender, Emotion, and Agency in Early Modern England and Wales.  In her research, Dr. Field draws on themes within social and cultural history, as well as methods from the history of emotions to create rich tapestries of daily life where broader frameworks of understanding gender, religion, the body, and class interacted with individual or local concerns. She has published several articles for the public and in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as female highway robbers, domestic homicide, and coin counterfeiting networks.

She is from Worcestershire, England, and completed her PhD in History and Welsh History at Cardiff University, Wales in 2018. Read more about Dr. Field:  https://medium.com/appstate-special-collections-blog/introducing-rhinehart-postdoctoral-fellow-dr-anna-field-a578aa02fdb2

The Rhinehart Postdoctoral Fellow in British History is funded by the Roy Carroll professorship in History with in-kind assistance from the University Libraries, the Department of History, and the Office of International Education and Development.  It allows the fellow the opportunity to work on research and writing with access to the Rhinehart Rare Book Collection on British History in the Special Collections Research Center, and numerous other British history resources available through the University Libraries.
