North Carolina Innovation Council Appointment for Agnes Gambill West

Congratulations to Agnes Gambill West, Head of Scholarly Communications, assistant professor, and member of the Digital Scholarship and Initiatives team in Belk Library and Information Commons.  Agnes was appointed by Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson to the North Carolina Innovation Council.  The 11-member council was established by the North Carolina Regulatory Sandbox Act, a newly enacted law (SL 2021-166) that creates a flexible regulatory “sandbox” environment for entrepreneurs to test innovative FinTech and InsurTech products and services for 24 months.  Council members make admissions to the regulatory sandbox program, set guidelines, and recommend policy priorities.

Agnes will leverage her expertise in blockchain and background in entrepreneurship and law during her tenure on the Innovation Council.  Since 2019, Agnes has served as Co-Chair of the North Carolina Blockchain Initiative (NCBI), a nonpartisan task force established by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.  The North Carolina Blockchain Initiative is tasked with studying the unique attributes and use cases of blockchain technology and developing recommendations that strengthen North Carolina as a leader in technological innovation and promote opportunities for economic growth.

Agnes was also recently appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Business and Consumer Payments Advisory Council. The Council was established in 2009 to collect and exchange information on payments and industry-related knowledge on payments policy and strategy to identify and understand emerging payment trends and transactions.  The Business and Consumer Payment Advisory Council is composed of a diverse mix of business representatives from the Fifth District of the Federal Reserve.

We are proud of all your accomplishments!
