Finding Recreation and Leisure job openings on the Web and in print sources


This guide provides URLs and basic search steps for sites that list job openings in recreation and leisure.  It also lists some print sources of job listings; these sources can be found in Belk Library. This guide lists the most promising Web sites and print sources as of November, 2007; it is not intended to be exhaustive. Jobs Web Sites:

     According to the site, this is "an international employment directory selecting and reviewing world-wide top job sites. 4icj.com includes 2200 employment sites ranked by popularity in 190 countries and is a free starting point to find international jobs and work abroad." Sites are grouped by region and country, by category, and by name. Therefore, to find recreation, sports, or leisure jobs, you could identify a country where you'd like to work (Ireland, for example); then, in the grouping by region, choose Europe and then Ireland; then choose the category for Job Boards; then choose IrishJobs.ie; then, search this site for recreations, sports, or leisure jobs.

The site requires registration, but you can search and view the job listings free. You can also sign up for e-mail notification of new job postings.

Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. Jobs.

     This page provides current information, with links to the appropriate Web pages, for job and internship options with Alaska's parks.      Use the links at the top of the page for types of jobs. Links include national parks, camps, resorts, state parks, ski resorts, ranches, guide jobs, jobs on water, older and bolder, internships, and volunteer work. You can subscribe to a weekly e-mail listing new jobs, or subscribe to RSS feeds for each of the specific pages.

     Although you are encouraged to register, you can search and view job ads without doing so. On the left side of the home page, under Fundamentals, click on Search funjobs. For best results, use this search function rather than the quick search tab. You can select the country you want to search, the job category (the pull-down menu seems to be showing the number of ads currently available for each job category), the educational level, type of positions (part-time or full-time), and job duration (year-round or seasonal). To see all the job ads in a job category, make your search as unrestricted as possible. Some of the ads were posted several months ago and may not still be available. Search results always list the most recently posted jobs first.
