How to
Create a Bibliography in EndNote
Create a new
library:
Open EndNote and click on create a new library. Name your new library of references.
Go
to File, then Save your library to My Documents—in the same file you have saved
your project. Your EndNote file will
have the extension .enl. If you save it
to a storage device or disk, you can later copy and paste those entries into
your original EndNote library.
Enter references
manually:
Click
on References. Note that you can manage your references--edit,
search, delete, and create new references from the same list.
To
create a new reference, choose the type of reference you want to create by
selecting one from the menu.

Either
type or cut and paste the resource information into the appropriate slots.
Multiple
entries—authors or keywords, etc.—must be entered on separate lines.
Do
not put in punctuation, quotation marks, or abbreviations for vol., no., or
pp. EndNote will put it all in the
citation style you choose.
When
you close the reference screen, the reference
will automatically be saved.
Choose the citation
style
you plan to use from the drop-down menu.
If you don’t find the one you want, choose Select Another Style.
EndNote will remember the ones you have selected.

Downloading records
from a database into EndNote:
Go to the database
or library catalog
you want to search. Some have options
for downloading into citation manager software and some do not. World Cat and other OCLC databases usually
work well.
Do
a search and choose the records you want to download. Click on Export.
Choose
the library you want to put the records in.
Choose the appropriate import filter:

EndNote
will show the new references. To see the
entire list, go to References and
click on Show all References.
To
save your bibliography as a Word
document, choose the references you want, go to
Edit > Copy
Formatted. Then Paste
into Word.
