ABC EXPRESS

ABC Express is a delivery service operated by WNCLN (the Western North Carolina Library Network - the libraries of Appalachian State University, UNC-Asheville, and Western Carolina University).

If you need a book, journal or other library material that is not held in your library, and one of the other two libraries owns the item, ABC Express can usually have it for you within three days. ABC books are delivered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and may be picked up at the Circulation Desk. See the delivery schedule.

Who is eligible?

Students, faculty, and staff of Appalachian State University, UNC-Asheville and Western Carolina University are eligible to use ABC Express. All other patrons should contact their public libraries regarding interlibrary loan.

To Order:

  1. Find the book/journal or film* in the online catalog and display the full bibliographic record on the screen.
  2. Click on the "Request" button
  3. Enter name, ID number and pickup location, as prompted
  4. Follow screen instructions to submit request

Be judicious in placing holds. The limit for active holds you can have at one time is ten (10). A hold is active until the item is checked out to you or the hold expires.

*Only faculty are eligible to borrow DVD, films or videos on ABC Express. Due to consortia membership requirements, UNC-A faculty are not eligible to request SASASAAS films.

Other Information:

  1. All materials are picked up at the Library's Circulation Desk.
  2. Books, films, videos and DVDs up are held for 7 days at your library's Circulation Desk.
  3. The loan period for books is 3 weeks, renewals allowed.
  4. The loan period for films/videos/DVDs is 7 days, no renewals.
  5. Fines: There is a $.20 per day overdue fine on all materials for all patrons.
  6. Journals: 48 hour use for faculty, staff, and students. Journals will be held at least 3 working days prior to being returned on an ABC Express run; no renewals allowed. There is a $.50 per hour overdue fine on all journals for all patrons.
  7. Current (unbound) issues of journals must be requested on a "pink form." Ask for the form at the Reference Desk.
