Policies on Instruction and Tour Services for ASU Affiliated and Non-ASU Groups
Belk Library & Information Commons is happy to accommodate group requests to use our facilities and resources. The following policies and procedures have been developed to ensure a positive learning experience for all.
Affiliated ASU Groups are defined as any camp, program, or organization directly affiliated with or sponsored by ASU (e.g.,Duke TIP, Summer Ventures, Upward Bound, and University Recreation ).
Non-ASU Groups are defined as any program or organization not directly affiliated or sponsored by ASU (e.g. Elementary, Middle, or High Schools, or Community Groups).
LIBRARY TOURS
Belk Library & Information Commons will take requests for tours for affiliated ASU groups and non-ASU groups. Every effort will be made to accommodate these requests. However, we reserve the right to decline a request if there are scheduling conflicts, or insufficient notification time or staffing to make the necessary arrangements.

Requests for tours should be made at least two weeks in advance of the desired date.

Groups of up to thirty individuals can be accommodated. Group leaders should be aware of proper library behavior and supervise group members at all times. We recommend one adult for every ten middle and high school students and one adult for every five elementary students.

Tours will consist of an orientation to the Library building, its collections, services, and selected service areas. Tours do not include database demonstrations, orientation to online resources, or instruction.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION RESEARCH VISITS
Affiliated Groups
Belk Library & Information Commons will take requests for library instruction for affiliated-ASU groups that participate in summer programs such as Duke TIP, Summer Ventures, Upward Bound, and University Recreation. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests for library instruction. However, we reserve the right to decline a request if there are scheduling conflicts, or insufficient notification time or staffing to make the necessary arrangements.

Requests for instruction should be made at least one week in advance of the desired date.

Class teachers will need to provide information on the students' expected research assignments in advance so that the librarian working with your class can prepare for your visit.
- Library instruction session includes an overview of the library web page, and a demonstration of the online catalog and online databases and are typically one hour in duration.
- Instruction sessions are held in the Library's electronic classrooms.
Groups of up to 45 students per visit can be accommodated in our largest classroom. Special accommodations may need to be made for groups larger than 45 students.

Students will be given an opportunity for hands-on research time during the session.

Non-ASU Groups
Teachers from local elementary, middle and high schools can make a request for a research visit to Belk Library & Information Commons. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests for library instruction. However, we reserve the right to decline a request if there are scheduling conflicts, or insufficient notification time or staffing to make the necessary arrangements.

Research visits for non ASU groups may be unavailable at certain times during fall and spring semesters of the University's academic year.
