Ingenta Services at Appalachian State University
ingenta is a database of current article information taken from over 25,000 multidisciplinary journals, with coverage starting in 1988. Articles that are less than $40, and from journals not held by ASU, UNC-A, and WCU, may be ordered by Faculty and Graduate students. Articles are available by fax (delivered within 24 to 48 hours during the normal business week) or available online in HTML or PDF format (an article will be available for downloading 24 hours after you order it).
Reveal Alerts are a journal table of contents current awareness service: article citations are emailed to the user. Users create a "Reveal Profile" that may include up to 50 journal titles or keyword searches of their research interest.

Setting up an Ingenta profile
Before you can order articles through Ingenta or use the Reveal Alert service you must set up an Ingenta profile (former UnCover user profiles have been added to the ingenta database). Please follow the steps below. If you need assistance, contact John Boyd at boydjd@appstate.edu or 262-2827, or call the Belk Library Reference Desk at 262-2820.

2. Login to Ingenta:
- If you previously set up an Uncover profile you can use your user ID (either a 7-digit number or your ASU ID) and password to login.
- If you never set up an Uncover profile, are a new faculty or graduate student, or cannot remember your password, enter your ASU ID in the bottom box, click enter, and register.
- If you would like to use Ingenta without the library subsidizing your order please click the sign up button and register.

Access to ingenta
Access to ingenta is available via the WNCLN ingenta Gateway . Articles are sent via fax to the fax number you indicate in your ingenta profile, and some articles are available online in PDF and HTML format. For users without a fax machine you can have articles sent to the the Library's Document Delivery fax at (828)262-4974. Off campus access to the ingenta gateway is available for users who set up their browser for proxy service .
Belk Library provides subsidized ordering for all faculty and graduate students. There is a $40 limit per article (the average cost of most articles is around $20).
Can all journal articles be ordered from ingenta?
Some journal articles are not available for subsidized ordering:
- Articles from journals owned by ASU, UNC-A, and WCU (WNCLN) are blocked: Use the ABC Express service to order articles from UNC-A and WCU.
- Articles costing more than $40 are blocked.
- The copyright holder or publisher does not permit ingenta to offer the article electronically.
Journal articles not available through ingenta--or owned by the network--may be ordered through the Library's Interlibrary Loan service.
Who can use Reveal Alerts?Access is based on IP-authentication, so users on the Appalachian State University campus can set up Reveal Alerts. Only ASU faculty and graduate students, however, are eligible for subsidized ordering of articles through ingenta.
The Reveal Alert service delivers tables of contents from the latest journal issues directly to your e-mail. You may select up to 50 titles for table-of-contents delivery. In addition, you may select up to 25 keyword and author searches to be matched against new ingenta citations on a weekly basis with resulting citations sent to your e-mail address.
